The Client

The client has more than 20 years of experience producing plastic components and products that are used for collection, storage, and distribution of high volumes of clean water to and from homes in Australia. With specialties in water catchment, water storage, insect and pest control, and leaf/debris removal systems, the client was extensively experienced in developing products for specific applications in Australia. They approached O2I for the following -

• Resizing of an existing component for a new product
• Use of PPTs, 2D drawings, and 3D models for resizing in SolidWorks
• Engineering resources who had specific knowledge of plastic component engineering and experience in similar types of projects

Project Challenges

During the course of the project, there were several challenges faced by the O2I team. These included those inherent to the resizing of plastic components in comparison to metal. This required resources with specific knowledge about plastics and resizing these types of components. The number of such resources available was scarce and required careful selection. The turnaround time for the project was only 23 days - combined with resource scarcity, the project proved challenging.

The Solution

To ensure the project was completed as per the quality and time requirements of the client, the following solution was devised by the O2I team -

• Samples were sent by the O2I team to the client for approval before the project started
• Four dedicated resources with the desired experience needed to complete the project were assigned to this client's project
• Files were sent to the team via Dropbox which were downloaded and worked on in SolidWorks
• The product size and specifications were compared several times to ensure accuracy throughout the project
• The Quality Assurance team performed several checks on every file to ensure maximum accuracy
• The finished files were shared back with the client using Dropbox

Results

As a result of the efforts by the Outsource2india team, the project was completed within the 23-day turnaround time the client had specified, with an accuracy level of more than 90%. The client was highly satisfied with these results and subsequently assigned two more projects to the team for completion. As such, a new long-term relationship has been established based on the results of this project.
