The client is a sports accessory manufacturer based in Germany, Europe. The client makes T-shirts, caps, footballs, team lines, team wear, training apparel, goalkeeper apparel, goalkeeper gloves, footballs, bandages, shin guards, bags, accessories, etc., for global clients.

Client Requirement

The client needed an outsourcing partner to create a 3D model for its online sports accessory sales catalogues to enable potential customers to get a panoramic view. The client also needed a five second animation showing the ball in motion (spinning) and a 360 degree view of a t-shirt.

Project Challenges

The primary challenges faced during the project implementation included -

• Timeframe - The client desired the delivery within a very short time
• Varying Costs - The project involved a lot of trial and error in terms of costs. As the scope of the project kept varying, every increase in O2I's delivery time resulted in an increase in costs for the client

O2I offered a quality test (free trial) on perusing the clients design need. After carefully analyzing the requirements, we provided the following solution -

• During the trial, the client provided O2I with two pictures (a football and a t-shirt)
• O2I used one resource to create a 3D model
• The resource used 3DS Max and Maya software
• Post creating the model, we provided the client with a 5 second animation of the ball in motion (spinning) and a 360 degree view of the T-shirt
• The trial met with the clients expectations

As the trial was successful, the client sent O2I the first project via Dropbox. O2I created 3D models for four batches/catalogues ($50,000 - $100,000 worth of images) in total.

• Each batch contained 200 images in five product categories (T-shirts, hand gloves, footballs, shorts, etc.)
• O2I completed one batch/catalogue within ten days
• We designated one full-time resource to complete the task
• O2I's process involved: Obtaining the images, 3D modeling (grey, no texture. no skin), applying the texture, and taking the rendered output during the final animation
• O2I successfully completed the catalogue (200 images) within the stipulated timeline

Based on the success of the project, the client signed an ongoing contract with O2I for the remaining three batches/catalogues. The client gave O2I a four month delivery time period for this project. O2I completed the task with five full-time 3D artists.
