The Client

The client is a recently launched startup in Bangalore, India that needed a partner to help them with data entry and digitization of menu information for their app. Their messaging app provides on demand access to local shops and businesses and approached Outsource2india for assistance with restaurant menu data entry and digitization. They needed a partner who could provide the following -

• Visit local food ordering websites in India and mine data from menus of the local restaurants in different states and cities
• Take the data mining results and enter them into Excel spreadsheets and save to .CSV format to upload into the client's app
• The project had to be completed in a very short time frame of just one week
• The client was looking for a partner who could provide high quality digitization services in a short period of time and in a cost-effective manner

Project Challenges

There were several challenges faced by the O2I team during the course of this project, which included -

• The project was quite time intensive because of the sheer scope of the request - mining data from restaurants in all states and cities of India
• Deduplication and avoidance of incorrect and duplicated information online was also a challenge faced during the project duration
• Some menus were only available in PDF format and OCR (optical character recognition) software had to be used to convert it into editable text so it could be placed into the spreadsheets

The Solution

To ensure the project was completed in a timely and accurate manner, the Outsource2india team used the following approach -

• A sample was provided at the start of the project to ensure that the quality matched the client's expectations
• After approval of this sample, the O2I team started working on the project with 10 resources exclusively assigned to the project to meet the timeline requested
• The client provided links to the websites where the team could find the restaurants that needed to be included
• The team gathered data from menus of these restaurants and entered all of the data into spreadsheets for use in .CSV format
• Detailed quality checks were performed upon completion of the data entry to ensure optimal quality in the final deliverable

The Results

The finished project consisted of 1,000 restaurant menus and 150,000 food items digitized and entered in Excel spreadsheets and saved in .CSV format. This process was completed in just one week and at an accuracy level of 95%, matching the benchmark set by the client.

The client was highly satisfied with the results and resulted in a long-term relationship with the client.
