Trends Tracker: The Glide Gauge
Years ago in Bangalore motorcycles drivers would often shut off their engines at red lights to save gasoline. Even small mopeds and gas powered rickshaws did it. And going down hills the engine was cut by the taxi driver to glide and save gas. The thing I never understood was why taxi drivers would turn out their headlights at night if there was no traffic. I guess in 1997 every rupee counted. Now days the vehicles are left running.
Is this progress? No wonder the price of oil is skyrocketing. The demand is increasing everyday. American demand can only go so high but in India with a booming economy the sky is the limit.
But why shouldn?t Indians use gasoline? Americans have been guzzling for years. Next time you are in India notice how small the hole is at the end of an exhaust pipe and then look at the gross size of an SUV in America. It is about 10 times the size of an Indian car.
Getting back to outsourcing trends ? the trend we are tracking is called the glide gauge. If you can find a city in India where they are still gliding to save gas then this will be the future place for globalization. I know some places but will save that for another time.
